WHAT DOES BOTOX TREAT?
Botox treats facial wrinkles and minor facial folds using a substance called Botulinum toxin type A. This substance blocks certain chemical signals to nerves in the treated areas, causing tense muscles to become relaxed and the skin above those muscles to take on a smoother appearance. Botox treats wrinkles and folds in multiple areas of the face, including the forehead, around the eyes, and around the mouth.
Below are the specific facial wrinkles and aesthetic concerns that Botox treats.
CROWS FEET
Crow’s feet are the pesky facial wrinkles that appear around the eyes and become more prominent when you smile or laugh. They’re called crow’s feet because they resemble the many toes of a bird, and as aging progresses, they can become increasingly pronounced. The muscle-relaxing effect of Botox can significantly reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, and, if treated early enough, may eliminate them completely.
FROWN LINES
Frown lines are exactly what they sound like, deep lines and facial wrinkles that result from persistent frowning. These lines specifically appear on the forehead and between the eyebrows, usually because of an intensely furrowed brow, and even when a person isn’t frowning, these areas can take on a progressively wrinkled appearance. Botox can relax the area around the eyebrows and on the forehead to create a softer, less tense appearance.
FOREHEAD LINES
Moving higher on the face, forehead lines gradually appear as we age simply due to the many facial movements that we make every day. Whether you’re laughing or frowning, the skin on your forehead is constantly moving along with your eyebrows, creating fine lines and wrinkles that become unsightly for some people. With the help of Botox, these forehead lines can fade away and make the visible stress of past years disappear.
THIN LIPS
Thin lips are a common sign of aging, as all skin tends to lose its elasticity and volume over time. While most people use lip fillers to treat thin lips and create a fuller appearance, Botox can also restore lip volume. As the Botox works to relax the skin around the lips, the decrease in tension of the upper lip muscles causes the lip itself to move upwards and appear fuller than before.
BUNNY LINES
While the areas around the forehead, eyes, and mouth usually get the most attention when it comes to Botox injections, the nose can also show signs of aging, commonly called bunny lines. These fine lines appear when you scrunch up your nose, and in time they can spread from the nose to reach the skin near the eyes. Botox injections can make these lines less prominent, making the nose look smoother and younger than before.
